  • Have Gun Will Travel was the #4 show in the Nielsen ratings in its first year, and #3 for the next three years.
  • In 1974, a Portuguese cowboy from Rhode Island(?),Victor De Costa, won a federal court judgment against CBS for trademark infringement, His reasoning was that he had created the Paladin character himself.This was very questionable because the original concept was that of a modern day detective. He claimed he began billing himself as Paladin after an Italian man called him a "paladino." at a horse show.He made appearances and always dressed in black. He handed out business cards with the Chess pieces Logo on it and it was said he even carried a concealed derringer. The resemblance between Mr. De Costa and Richard Boone was very notable. Although monetary damages were not immediately awarded, Mr.De Costa stood to gain a large award, as court testimony indicated that the Show had made more than $14 million dollars for CBS (a huge amount in the 1950's), plus millions more in product licensing. A year later, an appeals court overturned the ruling because Mr. De Costa failed to prove that the public had been deceived. However, Mr.De Costa kept pursuing the case, and in 1991 a settlement was reached for $3 million dollars.
  • Richard Boone was a true descendant of Daniel Boone.
  • Hey Girl was seen in 1960-61 when actress Lisa Lu temporarily replaced actor Kam Tong who had moved to another series.

  • Theme Song Lyrics

    Have Gun Will Travel reads the card of a man.

    A knight without armor in a savage land.

    His fast gun for hire head's the calling wind.

    A soldier of fortune is the man called Paladin.

    Paladin, Paladin Where do you roam?

    Paladin, Paladin, Far, far from home.

    He travels on to wherever he must;

    A chess knight of silver is his badge of trust.

    There are campfire legends that the plainsmen spin

    Of the man with the gun,

    of the man called Pa-l-l-l-l-a-din

  • In a scene in Stand By Me, the main characters sing the closing theme song.
